We wish to advise the residents of Christmas Island that the Shire has erected new speed limit signs in and around the roads of Christmas Island.

This has been done in accordance with the direction of Main Roads Western Australia.

MRWA performed an island audit last year of all speed limit zones and have issued an instruction to the Shire of Christmas Island to erect the new speed limit signs.

The control and direction of any speed limit signs is under the control and direction of

MRWA only.

The Shire of Christmas Island has no authority or ability to change speed limit zones or speed limit signage unless directed by MRWA.

Christmas Island will now have only two speed zones 40kph and 70kph zones for the whole of Island.

The Shire will be replacing all other forms of road signage over the next two months to bring all road furniture back to a safe standard and make it more visible to hazards and warnings of the road conditions.

The Shire thanks the residents of Christmas Island for their understanding and patients whilst these works are in progress and apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst these works are being performed over the next two months.

Kami ingin memaklumkan kepada penduduk Pulau Krismas bahawa pihak Shire telah memasang papan tanda had laju baharu di sekitar jalan raya Pulau Krismas.

Langkah ini diambil selaras dengan arahan daripada Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA).

MRWA telah menjalankan audit terhadap semua zon had laju di pulau tersebut pada tahun lepas dan mengeluarkan arahan kepada Shire Pulau Krismas untuk memasang papan tanda had laju yang baharu.

Kawalan dan penentuan sebarang papan tanda had laju adalah di bawah bidang kuasa dan arahan MRWA semata-mata.

Shire Pulau Krismas tidak mempunyai kuasa atau keupayaan untuk mengubah zon had laju atau papan tanda had laju kecuali atas arahan MRWA.

Pulau Krismas kini hanya akan mempunyai dua zon had laju, iaitu zon 40 km/j dan zon 70 km/j, bagi keseluruhan kawasan pulau.

Pihak Shire akan menggantikan semua bentuk papan tanda jalan yang lain dalam tempoh dua bulan akan datang bagi memastikan semua kelengkapan jalan raya memenuhi piawaian keselamatan serta lebih jelas kelihatan bagi memaklumkan tentang bahaya dan keadaan jalan raya.

Pihak Shire mengucapkan terima kasih kepada penduduk Pulau Krismas atas kefahaman dan kesabaran mereka sepanjang kerja-kerja ini dijalankan, serta memohon maaf atas sebarang kesulitan yang timbul semasa pelaksanaan kerja-kerja tersebut dalam tempoh dua bulan akan datang.
