JOINT PARKS AND SHIRE RAT BAITING PROGRAM
Public Notice 18/23
June 30, 2023
A collaborative community campaign to help manage rats in and around settled areas is being coordinated by the Shire of Christmas Island and Christmas Island National Parks in July.
Supply of Free Rat Bait
For the month of July, the Shire and Christmas Island National Park will be providing free rat bait, with bucket stations, to help kill rats around your homes. The rat baits supplied contain first generation toxins, meaning there is less risk to birds if they eat poisoned rats.
The bait buckets supplied reduce the risk of pets, children and land crabs accessing bait whilst allowing rats to consume it freely.
Verge Pick Up
The Shire will conduct a verge waste collection towards the end of July of hard waste. Further information as to dates for different neighbourhoods will be out soon.
How to get a Rat Bait Station?
Please contact Shire Ranger Yit Meng on 9164 8300 (242) to arrange for collection of a Rat Bat Station from the George Fam Offices from July 10th 2023. Limited numbers available. For questions on the program please contact Director of Works, Services and Waste Troy Davis at 91648300 (260)
