WALGA, together with the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS) and the WA Electoral Commission, will be hosting an Election Candidate Information Zoom webinar on Monday 18 August 2025 commencing at 6.00pm WA time / 5.00pm Christmas Island time. The Shire of CI will be facilitating webinar access at the council chambers to assist access for CI residents.

This session is designed to support individuals considering nominating, providing an overview of:

• Election processes

• Responsibilities of Local Government and Council Members

• Regulatory role of LGIRS

The following presenters will cover a range of topics, with the aim of preparing candidates for the electoral process, and if elected, life as a Council Member:

• Hon. Hannah Beazley MLA - Minister for Local Government; Disability Services; Volunteering; Youth; Gascoyne.

• Karen Chappel AM JP, President, WALGA.

• Dennis O’Reilly, Acting WA Electoral Commissioner & Phillip Richards, Manager of Election Events.

• Erin Gauntlett - LGIRS Deputy Director General

• Tony Brown, Executive Director Member Services, WALGA

Residents who wish to attend the webinar may sign up at the WALGA – Zoom link on the home page of www.shire.gov.cx to attend from home or attend at the Council chambers at the George Fam Building at 5.00pm, Monday August 18th 2025 for a group Zoom viewing.
